Art Collecting Advice

When you purchase artwork it is an extension of your personal experiences in life. You express a part of you that is a fundamental quality of a human being. Visual art is an expression of your interests and desires. It represents what is wonderful and positive in your life. It is not just special, but magic when you connect to an artist and their art. The artist can visualize the thoughts, places and desires that you have, providing you with a window to them in your daily life. Your relationship with a favorite artist is a partnership in a sense. The artist provides the technique to create your vision. When you collect art, you are sharing that artist's spirit and joy. That joy transfers to you, the collector.

An art purchase allows the artist’s work to continue and grow with the passing years. You are investing in their career and you will reap the rewards of owning something unique and beautiful for many generations. It often rewards you with a life long friendship with your favorite artist with the fun of spending time in their studio, discovering their process and motivation. You should purchase what touches you, inspires you, helps you connect to something larger than yourself. Collecting art is a personal experience and an expression of who you are as a person.

Here I am plein air painting at the Little Wekiva River in Apopka, Florida. I was invited to the annual Wekiva River Paint Out. We live in the state park for a week, painting all day. It is heavenly.

Visiting My Art Studio

Please feel free to visit my studio. It is a pleasant and easy drive out to the country. You will enjoy the scenery on the way. I live only 13 miles from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. My studio is small and cozy. I will welcome you with refreshments and lively conversation. I will not pressure you in any way to purchase my paintings. I love having visitors. It is always a pleasure for me. Please visit on any Monday-Thursday from 9 AM to 7 PM. I will be happy to have you on any other day by appointment.

My Pledge To You - Original Paintings Only

I assure you that my landscape paintings are "The Real Thing".  I only do original oil and acrylic paintings on the best possible supports.  I use Utrecht, Old Holland, Daniel Greene, or W&N oil paints. I use Golden or Quiller Acrylics. My canvas comes from French Canvas or Canvas Place.com and my panels are made by Neil Johnson, a master cabinet maker and Raymar Panel Makers. My paintings are varnished with Utrecht Gloss Varnish.

I have absolutely no reproductions of my landscape paintings. That includes no fake paintings printed on canvas, giclee's, offset reproductions or other reproductions of my work that could be misconstrued as original art.

When you purchase a Linda Blondheim painting, you have the only painting.

In this day and age of fake art and massive numbers of reproductions, I believe it is important to own original art. Original paintings will last your life time and those of generations to come.  "Original Affordable Art" is my motto!!

Artist Statement

I started painting as a child at about 8 years old. I had a horse club and we met in the spare room at my house. We spent our time drawing horses and painting them with tempera and watercolor.

In high school I graduated to oil paints. I set up a garret studio in my home attic. I fancied myself as one of the French Impressionists and imagined that I lived in Paris, sitting in café’s. I insisted on painting from life, borrowing things from my Mother’s refrigerator to use as still life objects. I often left them past their prime and the odors were horrible, much to my Mother’s dismay.

In art school I studied painting and drawing and was a drawing major. At that time we all fancied ourselves to be Existentialists, though we had no idea what that meant. We wore black everywhere and drank gallons of coffee.

The following painters influenced my early work, including Joe Testa Secca, Hans Hoffman, Francis Bacon, Anders Zorn, John Singer Sargent, Edward Manet, Camille Pissaro, Gilbert Demeza, Jim Dine, Alex katz, Wayne Thiebaud, Hiram Williams, and Vermeer.

These days I’m a bit older and far more practical in my approach to painting. My focus is on the Southern Landscape. I treasure the heritage of the South and strive to record those places dear to me. I have spent the last two years working on a series about Florida Rivers. I enjoy doing landscape paintings more than any other subect.

My painting process includes several different steps. I do hundreds of studies every year for larger works. I paint on location, especially in the fall and spring, using these small painting to record information for larger studio paintings. I study a variety of disciplines in painting, including values, color theory, Notan, and composition. I use several mediums, including watercolor, oils, gouache, casein, and acrylics.

I am excited by the landscape and all of its mysteries. From the North Carolina mountains to the deep swamps of Alabama, Georgia and Florida. I love them all and it is privilege to record them on canvas.

Creating original landscape paintings is my life’s work. Recording the land I love so much from the depth of my soul is my gift. When you own an original painting by an artist who truly understands and loves the subject they paint, you have something precious and rare, that no one else will ever have. Creating a one of a kind painting is very special.

My current projects include writing a new book for beginning and intermediate painters which is a study guide for studying lansdscape painting for a year. I continue to study Notan painting, values and color mixing and develop new color palettes for my own work. The Florida rivers series brings me great joy.  I have a new web site for my commisions and large paintings. www.lindablondheimlandscapeart.com

I hope you will enjoy it.
